\"\"<\/a>The Michigan State Fair is back! \u00a0Here at Honeybee Homes, our work is real estate, but we all need a chance to unwind. \u00a0So let’s look at one of Michigan’s oldest traditions, and remember why it’s a great way to spend a day.<\/p>\n

Many of us have great memories of the state fair. \u00a0The rides, the delicious food, the fun animal exhibits, and more. \u00a0But life gets busy, and it can be hard to work it into your schedule. \u00a0Especially in West Michigan, because it’s a bit of a drive.<\/p>\n

So is the Michigan State Fair worth the trip? \u00a0Yes! \u00a0Here’s why:<\/p>\n

\"State<\/a>1. Great Music<\/strong><\/p>\n

Concerts are normally a lot of effort. \u00a0Getting tickets in advance, a lot of time spent in the car, finding seats, and then the packed parking lot afterward. \u00a0Not here! \u00a0There is great music all day, throughout the event.<\/p>\n

Normally, you couldn’t even see a single show for the fair admission price. \u00a0Here, you have your own music festival<\/a> at your fingertips.<\/p>\n

2. Fantastic Food<\/strong><\/p>\n

I’m not just talking about the delicious fried food that comes with every fair. \u00a0The Michigan State Fair includes it’s own farmers market<\/a>, so you can sample the best of local produce.<\/p>\n

\"Strawberries\"<\/a>There is a cooking demo stage<\/a>, which allows you to learn new recipes and tricks from professional chefs. \u00a0Come away with a great way to prepare an old classic, or a new family favorite!<\/p>\n

There is also a Celebration Beer Garden<\/a>, for you craft beer folks. \u00a0West Michigan is home to some amazing breweries, and there are many more across the state. \u00a0Taste the best Michigan has to offer, all in one stop.<\/p>\n

3. \u00a0Amazing Animals<\/strong><\/p>\n

Whether you like dogs, horses, pigs, or cows, the fair has something for you! \u00a0A big attraction this year is the Equestrian Pavilion<\/a>. \u00a0This was a tradition that started waaay back with the first Michigan State Fair, and they’ve revived it.<\/p>\n

\"Racing<\/a>There are shows, classes, and stables to show off some of the most beautiful and talented horses in the state. \u00a0Come and learn, or just enjoy the majestic beauty of the thoroughbreds\u00a0up close.<\/p>\n

Need to kick up the speed? \u00a0Check out the racing pigs<\/a>! \u00a0The first time I heard about a pig race, someone had to drag me there. \u00a0But it’s great! \u00a0They’re quick, cute, and it makes\u00a0for a great ‘ice cream cone’ bet.<\/p>\n

If you’re more of a dog lover, the Rock and Roll K-9’s Performance Team<\/a> will be doing tricks and runs throughout the show. \u00a0This group performed at the Thanksgiving Parade, so you know it has to be good.<\/p>\n

There are also wonderful livestock<\/a> and beginning of life<\/a>\u00a0exhibits for animals you don’t see every day.<\/p>\n

4. \u00a0Stellar Shopping and Crafts<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Shopping\"<\/a>If retail therapy is your game, you can get lost for hours in the craft and shopping areas of the fair. \u00a0From home made items to larger vendors offering great deals, there is a ton to see.<\/p>\n

There’s even a special ‘Michigan Made’ pavilion to showcase products from our great state.<\/p>\n

5. Fantastic Kids Activities<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tiny Totville<\/a> boasts a great variety of games for kids under 5, with lots of supervision and age-appropriate games.<\/p>\n

The Shrine Circus<\/a> features acrobats, elephants, and gravity defying performers… all under one tent! \u00a0This is another Michigan tradition, dating back more than 100 years.<\/p>\n

6. \u00a0The Midway<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Michigan<\/a>And of course, the rides, games, and elephant ears! \u00a0Relive your youth\u00a0on the Scrambler or Ferris wheel, and try to throw some tiny rings on tiny milk bottles.<\/p>\n
