There are officially NO\u00a0houses for rent in Grand Rapids! \u00a0It’s all either scams or apartments!<\/em><\/p>\n

Sound familiar? \u00a0I’m positive I’ve said those things more than once. \u00a0A few years ago, when I was searching for a house for rent in Grand Rapids, I felt like I was running into a brick wall.<\/p>\n

I wasn’t sure where to look for a house, and my trusty Google searches didn’t seem to be helping. \u00a0I was scouring website after website, trying to find anywhere that had more than three houses for rent. \u00a0No dice.<\/p>\n

I called friends, and they seemed to all find their places through family or ‘someone they knew.’ \u00a0Which is great, but what if you don’t have an Uncle Joe who happens to rent out houses?<\/p>\n

Fortunately, by asking a lot of questions, and not quitting, I found some great resources that are still strong today.<\/p>\n

\"ShowMeTheRent\"<\/a>1. \u00a0ShowMeTheRent.com<\/a><\/p>\n

This is a great site. \u00a0It is very easy to search, and you can set plenty of filters. \u00a0Do you have a cat? \u00a0Find a place\u00a0where Fluffy will be welcome! \u00a0Do you prefer having laundry on site? \u00a0Cue up the spin cycle!<\/p>\n

You can even search for Section 8 approved housing, short term leases, and smoke-free properties.<\/p>\n

This site started as a way for landlords to be able to quickly and easily put their homes for rent across the web, and has grown up a lot since then. \u00a0The founders, Jeremy and Jon Schneider, have done a great job with it.<\/p>\n

ShowMeTheRent\u00a0has a bit of everything. \u00a0Houses for rent in Grand Rapids, apartments, condos, and duplexes, just to start. \u00a0If you need to know where to start, start here.<\/p>\n

\"Snow<\/a>2. \u00a0Property Manager Websites<\/p>\n

Go to your favorite search engine and type in ‘property managers in Grand Rapids Michigan.’ \u00a0I can wait. \u00a0(:<\/p>\n

As soon as you do that, you find out that there are many, many property managers here. \u00a0Some are better than others, but we will cover that in another post. \u00a0For now, just visit their sites.<\/p>\n

The majority of these property managers have houses for rent right now. \u00a0They post these on their sites, and most are available immediately (or within a few weeks). \u00a0You can look at pictures, discuss options, and even look over rental agreements from the comfort of your couch.<\/p>\n

If you don’t like what one has available, check the next. \u00a0I promise that there are plenty to choose from.<\/p>\n

\"Craigslist\"<\/a>3. \u00a0Craigslist<\/a><\/p>\n

Craigslist can be an excellent\u00a0resource. \u00a0If you haven’t visited in a while, you should take a fresh look.<\/p>\n

Most postings have high-quality photographs of the property, along with detailed descriptions. \u00a0You can search by geographical range, number of bedrooms, pet acceptance, and more.<\/p>\n

Many landlords that just have one or a few houses post them on Craigslist. \u00a0If you’d prefer to work with an individual over a management company, this can\u00a0be a good resource for you.<\/p>\n

Craigslist offers everything when it comes to housing, from houses to duplexes to apartments. \u00a0The downside is inconsistency. \u00a0One week, you might have dozens of places to choose from, while the next week has slim pickings. \u00a0However, if you’re persistent, you can find a great place.<\/p>\n

Since it is free to post to Craigslist, be on the lookout for scams. \u00a0The general rule is: If it feels wrong, it is. \u00a0Don’t go to a place and ‘look in the windows’ because someone tells you to, and don’t mail a security deposit without seeing the place in person.<\/p>\n
