\"Climb\"<\/a>Many of us have real estate dreams. \u00a0Perhaps you want to become a homeowner, or move to a bigger apartment. \u00a0Maybe you’d love to upgrade to a better school district, or purchase an investment house.<\/p>\n

Big dreams require big action.<\/p>\n

However, the formula is simple. \u00a0Deceptively, annoyingly simple.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. \u00a0Decide\u00a0on ONE game changing goal.<\/li>\n
  2. \u00a0Make\u00a0a plan, and work your\u00a0plan. \u00a0Adjust as necessary.<\/li>\n
  3. \u00a0Do NOT quit until the goal is achieved.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    That’s it. \u00a0This formula is incredibly difficult to follow, but amazingly simple at its core. \u00a0Let’s dig in to each of these steps further.<\/p>\n

    \u00a01. \u00a0Decide on ONE game changing goal.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    First, you must decide what you want. \u00a0Most people never do.<\/p>\n

    Oh sure, they may have small goals, such as\u00a0getting a bigger TV or a new pair of shoes. \u00a0But real estate goals aren’t small. \u00a0They are life changing. \u00a0And remember, big dreams\u00a0require big action.<\/p>\n

    \"Sparkler\"<\/a>So first, set your chief aim. \u00a0What do you want to accomplish? \u00a0Why do you want it? \u00a0How important is it? \u00a0Don’t shoot\u00a0for something easy, just because it seems attainable. \u00a0Choose a goal\u00a0that will truly improve your life.<\/p>\n

    Secondly, narrow this to ONE current goal. \u00a0If you’re trying to accomplish 5 big dreams at once, your efforts will be scattered and unfocused. \u00a0Knock down your most important goal first, and then move on to the next one.<\/p>\n

    Example: \u00a0Jane would love to take a two week vacation to France, buy a nicer car, and purchase a small house on a lake near Grand Rapids (her first home). \u00a0All of these goals seem “unrealistic” by her current standards, and would take a monumental effort to achieve. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

    After carefully considering their overall importance and impact on her life, Jane decides she will throw all of her effort into purchasing the\u00a0lake home. \u00a0She has wanted to live on a lake for 20 years, and is willing to do what it takes to get there.<\/em><\/p>\n

    2. \u00a0Make a plan, and work your plan. \u00a0Adjust as necessary.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    There are many paths\u00a0up a mountain. \u00a0Similarly, there are many ways\u00a0to achieve your goal.<\/p>\n

    Sit down, and draw up a road map. \u00a0Figure out what your next step should be, and do it. \u00a0Don’t worry if each part of the process\u00a0isn’t perfectly defined. \u00a0Taking action is more important than having a flawless\u00a0plan.<\/p>\n

    \"Work\"<\/a>Take one step, and then another. \u00a0Be consistent, and keep moving in the same direction. \u00a0Along the way, you will probably figure out that you need to adjust your strategies – that’s OK! \u00a0You will figure it out as you go.<\/p>\n

    This plan will require sacrifice on your part. \u00a0You may have to give up free time, change your spending, or make other shifts to your lifestyle. This is why it is so important to pick a life-improving goal… it helps you push through the tough stuff.<\/p>\n

    Example: \u00a0Jane realizes that she needs to save money\u00a0for her down payment and her\u00a0‘cushion’ for unexpected home expenses. \u00a0So, her first step is to make a budget. \u00a0Her next step is to reduce her expenses. \u00a0She downgrades her TV plan, starts brewing coffee (instead of stopping at Starbucks), and sets up automatic deposits\u00a0to her brand new savings account.<\/em><\/p>\n

    Once she’s made some smart budget cuts, she\u00a0decides she wants to speed up the process. \u00a0She takes \u00a0a part time job for a few hours a week, and has her check deposit directly into her savings. \u00a0After a few months, her bank account is looking much healthier!<\/em><\/p>\n

    3. \u00a0Do NOT quit until the goal is achieved.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Big dreams are hard to achieve. \u00a0Progress is slow, and often barely noticeable.<\/p>\n

    You will have many, many distractions along the way. \u00a0Your life will change, and new opportunities will present themselves. \u00a0You will meet unexpected hurdles, and face challenges that knock you on your butt.<\/p>\n

    Push through it.<\/p>\n

    \"Rocket\"<\/a>Many people are their own worst critics. \u00a0Fear, doubt, and uncertainty are very difficult to deal with. \u00a0Sacrifice (without immediate results) can be frustrating. \u00a0In the stressful moments, try to remember why your goal is important, and look back at the progress you have made. \u00a0If you can push through these tough times, you will\u00a0achieve your goal.<\/p>\n

    Example: \u00a0After working toward her goal for six months, Jane gets hit with a massive car repair bill. \u00a0She gets the familiar itch for the nicer, newer car, and feels the pain of a big financial setback. \u00a0In this moment, all of her effort feels pointless – why work so hard (and sacrifice so much) when life seems determined to push her\u00a0back into the mud? <\/em><\/p>\n

    This is a decisive moment.<\/em><\/p>\n

    Will she stick to her lake house goal? \u00a0Will she do what is necessary\u00a0to find reliable transportation, but stay committed to her chief aim? Or will she put\u00a0what is left of her savings account\u00a0into purchasing the nicer\u00a0car? \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n
